Bursitis

A bursa is a fluid filled sac that assists movement and reduces friction between moving body parts. They lie between a tendon and skin or between a tendon and bone. Bursitis is inflammation of the sac. It can be acute or chronic.

Bursitis is caused by chronic overuse or trauma and it can be helped by chiropractic. It commonly occurs in the shoulder, knee, elbow, and hip. Sometimes it can occur in the Achilles tendon and the foot.

How can chiropractic help bursitis? To understand that you must understand two terms: subluxation and adjustment. A subluxation is a malposition or a fixation of a joint that is affecting a nerve and causing pain or a problem with an internal organ. An adjustment is a very fast, light thrust into a joint that introduces motion and restores the position of that joint. This procedure either needs to be applied to the joint with the bursitis or another joint that is adversely affecting its motion or position. Once the normal function is restored to the joint, the bursitis goes away because the root of the problem has been treated.
